Lady of the Lake

 

The tragic fate of an indian princess has cursed this lake. During the 1600's, love fell upson a princess and an english settler. Their union was forbidden. Her frustration mounted each day until the princess drowned herself in the lake. Each year her tormented spirit takes the life of a young male; eternally seatching for a lover to join her in her watery grave. There have been approximately 147 drownings from the years 1877-1977 and 32 drownings since 1973; all of them were men.

 

 

Mary's Playhouse

 

Within this stone springhouse a young girl was repeatedly abused by her father. Her mother having died during her childbirth could not help her and her father always blamed her for the tragedy. They say that one night Mary finally took her revenge. She took a hatchet to his skull and later hung herself from a tree near the springhouse. Late at night her body has been seen swinging back and forth from a tree's limb.

 

 

Union Cemetery

 

This cemetery has been collecting the dead since the 18th century. Recently, a man swerved on the road and crashed his car into the graveyard, ejecting his body through the windshield and into the headstones. Though people are no longer being buried on the grounds, bodies are still finding their way into the premises.

 

 

Men's Room Murder

 

While inside the men's room an innocent man was shot and killed. Following the incident, workers have described ghost-like phenomena. Employees describe pots and pans repeadly falling off the shelves on their own.They have also reported an eerie sensation of being watched.

 

 

Sweet Hollow Suicide

 

Three boys committed suicide by hanging themselves from this overpass. People have reported an unusual scraping on their roofs when driving late at night. Some claim it's the sound of the ghost's dangling feet. On another occasion a police officer was shot in the head and killed on the side of the road. People have since spotted him walking down the street with the back of his head blown off.

 

 

Mount Misery

 

When the first settler purchased this land from the native people, they were told of evil spirits at work. The natives warned them to stay away from this mount because the rocky terrain made settlement next to impossible. In 1840, a hospital was erected for the mentally insane. The building set fire with patients left to burn inside. About 15 years later, the hospital was re-built. The new patients claimed to smell the building burning as well as hearing the sounds of screams.

 

 

Horror House

 

On November 13, 1974, Ronald Defeo used a high powered rifle to kill all six members of his family. They were found on their stomachs with their heads resting on their arms. On December 18, 1975, a family of five moved in. Twenty-eight days later, the family fled from the house; claiming it was possessed. They never returned for their possessions.

 

 

The Psych Center

 

Established in 1885, treatments including prefrontal lobotomies and electro-shock therapy were commonplace in this asylum. However in 1955, Thorazine was invented becoming the first widespread medication for the mentally insane. The hospital's population began to drop rapidly until the remaining patients were transferred into another state hospital. These towering buildings were left abandoned and the souls of those tortured inside remain to haunt the grounds and spook the crowds of tresspassing locals.

 

 

Satan's Trails

 

Within these woods, a deserted boarding house was a location for performing satanic rituals. The building has since been demolished while the spirits of those sacrificed still wander the woods.
